If you're like many brides, choosing a bridesmaid dress is right under choosing a wedding dress as one of the most important details of your wedding.

But finding a dress that fits your bridesmaids well, looks good on them, matches you wedding theme and is within most of their budgets can be tough.

According to: Bridesmaid Dresses 101

Here is some basic bridesmaid gown etiquette

  • It is the bride who gets to decide the color, style and fabric of the dresses.
  • The bride should consider such factors as her bridesmaids budgets, their figure types and preferences for color and style.
  • It is a good idea for the bride to take at least her maid of honor and maybe 1 or 2 other bridesmaid to see how the dresses look on several different people.
  • It is ultimately the brides decision.

Can A Bridesmaid Dress Multi-Task?

"Will I ever be able to wear this again?"

Well that depends....on the dress.

The idea of selecting a bridesmaid dress that can be "worn again" is not new. However, many of the brides who have started out with great intentions of finding that perfect yet versatile bridesmaid dress have failed miserably.

Don't get me wrong, as a women who has been through the whole wedding thing, even if it was a few years ago, I understand how difficult it is to pick a bridesmaid dress.

First, you have to find a dress that looks good (or relatively good) on all of your bridesmaids. If you have four nearly identical, size four Barbie doll like bridesmaids, this is simple. But for most people, I'm going to venture this is not the case.

Here are few tips if your a bride who really wants to select a dress your bridesmaids can wear again.
  • Stick with Neutral colors. Black, brown and other neutral tones flatter almost all skin and hair colors.

  • Keep it simple. Simply uncluttered designs are more versatile and are more like to flatter a variety of different body types.

  • Go short? While a short dress may not fit the theme of some weddings, some short dresses are more versatile because they can be worn again as a cocktail dress to any number and type of events.

  • Long dresses can also be multi-taskers. Some long dresses can also be worn again or, depending on their design, shortened to make beautiful cocktail gowns.

Most importantly, don't just choose a dress because it can be worn again. Be sure it is really the dress you want your bridesmaids to wear at your wedding, this is most important. Make sure it looks good on your attendants and that it fits into their budgets also.

Also keep in mind who your bridesmaids are and their lifestyle. If none of them attend events where they dress up on a regular basis, then they may not ever wear the dress again, regardless of how versatile it maybe.
